Position Summary

The Survey Programmer is responsible for programming and testing all aspects of online surveys. This individual will work closely with the Marketing Sciences team to consult on survey design elements, ensure accurate programming, manage fieldwork, and meet client deadlines.


Responsibilities include:

  • Convert written questionnaires into online surveys using survey programming software
  • Test the questionnaire to validate the accuracy of programming
  • Run feasibility analysis to determine sample availability and estimated time in field
  • Develop and optimize recruitment tactics to maximize survey response and completion rates
  • Proactively recommend processes, solutions to increase efficiency and quality of research campaigns by working with Marketing, Client Services, Ad Operations, Target List Management, BI and QA teams
  • Work with project lead to clean and compile survey data, including generation of summary tables and banners
  • Proactively analyze and trend sample performance and alert manager to areas of concern and/or opportunity
  • Manage project timelines in WorkFront, immediately escalating issues that may be obstacles to meeting projected deadlines
  • Collaborate and meet regularly with Campaign Integration team to stay up-to-date on organizational developments that might impact research recruitment


  • Bachelor’s degree in market research related program (Applied Social Sciences/Statistics/Computer Science) or equivalent/related field, or at least 4 years of Web production/publishing or computer programming
  • 2 years in survey programming
  • Knowledge of HTML/XHTML, CSS and JavaScript (hand coding and use of text editor)
  • Use SFTP to deploy JavaServer Pages (JSP) and image content to the live environment
  • Use of Email Service Provider to manage email recruitment
  • Individual must be a self-starter, demonstrate a sense of urgency and ownership to drive projects to completion, and be successful in a collaborative environment.
  • The candidate must be organized, detail oriented and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • End-to-end understanding of development processes, organization, and techniques in order to drive the creation of optimal solutions

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with survey methods and online survey tools (e.g., Decipher, Surveywriter, Qualtrics)
  • Experience with sample management
  • Experience in market research
  • Experience using Groovy programming language
  • Experience using Python programming language
  • IntelliJ knowledge
