Responsibilities

Medscape Education, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts physician portals and related mobile applications that make it easier for physicians and healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits and communicate with peers. 

 

Medscape Education is seeking a highly qualified and experienced medical editor/writer to support development of medical education content (ie, CME/CE). The Scientific Director is responsible for developing CME/CE activities for professional audiences that will be published on the Medscape.org site. Medscape Education activities seek to improve the knowledge, competence, and performance of healthcare professionals. This position requires extensive interaction with external faculty (ie, clinical and patient care experts) and includes collaboration with cross-functional internal teams including production, multimedia, medical strategy, sales, grant development, program delivery, outcomes, and analytics.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Maintain up-to-date knowledge of important clinical issues, relevant literature, clinical practice guidelines, approved therapeutic drugs and regimens, therapeutic pipelines, and key opinion leaders in hematology-oncology;

·        Quickly acquire up-to-date knowledge of other therapeutic area(s), as needed;

·        Develop educational content consistent with industry regulations and requirements for continuing medical education of physicians (CME), nurses (CE), and pharmacists (ACPE);

·        Collaborate with internal team members to develop ideas for grant proposals;

·        Collaborate with internal team members and external educational partners and vendors to plan and develop content;

·        Maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;

·        Develop and maintain professional relationships with key opinion leaders and experts in assigned therapeutic area(s);

·        Recruit qualified faculty for assigned projects;

·        Plan and lead small-group meetings (internal and external);

·        Edit content (text and multimedia) received from faculty/authors and medical writers for organization, clarity, accuracy, alignment with educational grant, and appropriateness for the target learner audience;

·        Write questions that measure educational effectiveness (eg, posttest, outcomes assessment);

·        Complete project assignments on time;

·        Function independently in all of the above

Qualifications

·      Advanced degree preferred (MD, RN, NP, PA, PhD, PharmD) in a medical or science-related specialty; several years of experience in the medical education field may be considered instead

·      3+ years of work experience in a related background such as in a medical education/communications company, or professional medical publisher, or academic institution/hospital/university center, or medical society or pharmaceutical/biotech industry

·     Background in medical sciences to be conversant with nationally/internationally recognized KOLs regarding key/emerging issues related to prevention, diagnosis, and treatments within the therapeutic area of Hematology or Oncology.

·      Effective written and verbal communication

·      Organizational skills necessary for effective time management and multitasking

·      Ability to work in cross-functional internal teams including outcomes, product development, production, studio 

·      Excellent writing skills

·      Ability to work independently and in group setting

·      Ability to prioritize and adhere to established timelines

·      Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail

·      Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively

·      Demonstrable experience of professional and hands-on medical content creation

·      Familiarity with CME/CE standards and processes

·      Able to manage multiple, rapidly shifting priorities and to adapt easily to change

·      Has a flexible mind set to manage multiple moving parts/projects simultaneously and follow through in a highly deadline-driven environment

·      Outstanding communication skills to convey in a timely, effective, and clear fashion the details of the science, be it by phone, email or face to face

·      Possesses strong team-building and inter-personal skills, including cultural awareness to relationship-build with international KOLs

·      Must be very fluent in English (verbal/written)

·      approx. 20% travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  ·      Knowledge of and ability to apply ACCME standards to content development

·      Online publishing experience preferred

·      Medical Writer Certified (MWC™) credential preferred

·      Editorial skills: developmental, substantive/structural, stylistic, rewriting

·      Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word and Outlook

·      Advanced skill level in PowerPoint

·      Advanced Editorial skills

·      Basic skill level in Excel and Adobe Acrobat

·      Basic skill level in ReadCube and EndNote

·      Ability to work effectively and efficiently on shared networks/corporate applications (Workfront, SharePoint, Sales Force, Lync, Box)
