Responsibilities

Medscape, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts physician portals and related mobile applications that make it easier for physicians and healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits and communicate with peers. 

 

Medscape Education from WebMD is seeking an individual interested in working in the medical education field in our New York City offices. The Medscape Education associate editor is responsible for providing a broad base of editorial support for the therapeutic areas to which he/she is assigned, including developing enduring content, editing content, generating figures and tables, sourcing images for programs, and performing Web research, as needed, to complete work and assist the department and colleagues.

 

• Developing/Formatting enduring PowerPoint decks for video-based educational content
• Generating tables and figures in PowerPoint for text-based educational programming; providing support to Graphics Editor on recreates in Adobe Illustrator
• Applying modified AMA style to reference citations and content
• Editing projects for grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, consistency
• Reviewing content for factual accuracy (fact checking), as needed
• Writing content for pre- and post-program summaries
• Sourcing appropriate images in image database to augment activity content
• Conducting Web research, as needed
• Assisting with training new hires on Editorial Services department functions
• Completing other responsibilities, as assigned

Qualifications

·        Bachelor's degree in English, journalism and/or biological sciences

·      Minimum of 2 years’ related work experience in editorial department of large medical education and/or medical communications company, and/or professional medical publisher

·      Experience with print permissions and copyright requirements 

·      Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing 

·      Understanding of and familiarity with AMA style

·      Efficient capabilities for developing and editing PowerPoint files, Word documents, performing image searches, medical data reference searches (e.g., PubMed, Google Scholar, ClinicalTrials.gov)

·      Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to efficiently coordinate and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly deadline-driven environment, while taking into consideration global stakeholders based across multiple time zones 

·      Ability and desire to meet deadlines and deliver results with minimum supervision by creatively using existing resources in a productive and/or innovative way, to quickly deal with unforeseen issues, and suggesting plausible solutions to ensure that timelines are consistently met

·      Self-motivated, positive attitude and very high energy, with a willingness to accept varied assignments 

·      Exceptional focus on accuracy, attention to detail and consistency of work

·      Demonstrable critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and high degree of initiative

·      Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with members of Editorial Services, Scientific Direction, Program Management, Production and Studio teams 

·      Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)

·      Excellent computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, EndNote)

·      This is a full-time, in-office position in New York City; candidate must live within reasonable daily commuting distance

·      Ability to work overtime, as needed

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

·        Experience with continuing medical education materials

·        Understanding of ACCME guidelines

·        Knowledge of internet technologies; previous online development experience a plus

·        Experience with web-based document sharing sites (such as Box) 

·        Experience using web-based project management tools 

·        Familiarity with PubMed and other online searchable sites

·        Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator 

·        Experience with Endnote or other referencing software
