Medscape Education is seeking a highly-qualified and experienced medical editor/writer to support the development of medical education content (ie, CME/CE) at MedSims, our virtual patient case simulation programs. The Scientific Director is responsible for developing CME/CE activities for professional audiences that will be published on the site. Medscape Education activities seek to improve the knowledge, competence, and performance of healthcare professionals. This position requires extensive interaction with external faculty (i.e., clinical and patient care experts) and includes collaboration with cross-functional internal teams including production, sales, medical strategy, program delivery, and analytics.



·       Maintain up-to-date knowledge of important clinical issues, major publications, clinical practice guidelines, advancements, approved therapeutic drugs and regimens, therapeutic pipelines, and industry trends in various therapeutic areas (i.e., oncology in particular, but also neurology, cardiology, rheumatology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general infectious diseases, viral hepatitis, and HIV/AIDS), to guide content development of CME/CE activities;

·       Quickly acquire up-to-date knowledge of other therapeutic area(s), including oncology, as needed;

·       Interpret quantitative and qualitative research data/findings;

·       Develop educational content consistent with CME industry regulations and requirements for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists;

·       Collaborate with directors of medical strategy and directors of medical education to develop grant proposals by determining the appropriateness and feasibility of the proposed educational plan in assigned therapeutic areas;

·       Collaborate with internal team members and external educational partners (eg, academic institutions, professional societies, nonprofit organizations) to plan and execute content;

·       Work closely with the most appropriate faculty for assigned projects;

·       Prepare first-drafts of video scripts for faculty and intervening when necessary during videotaping/audiotaping;

·       Edit (clinical edit and line edit) content received from faculty/authors and medical writers for organization, clarity, medical accuracy, alignment with grant proposal vision, and appropriateness for the target learner audience;

·       Write high-level assessment questions for educational posttests and outcome assessments designed to measure learning and educational effectiveness;

·       Help in the preparation of reports of end-user performance improvement and other data generated during the simulations for reporting back to supporters;

·       Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement

·       Function independently in all of the above


·       Advanced degree (eg, MD, DO, MN, MS, MPH, PharmD, PhD; preference given to an MD or DO, nurse practitioner or PA or PharmD with experience in a clinical field preferred; oncology experience required; candidates with extensive appropriate experience considered

·       3+ years related work experience preferably in a large medical education and/or medical communications company, and/or professional medical publisher, although will consider similar experience within an  academic institution or medical society

·       Background in medical sciences to be conversant with nationally/internationally recognized KOLs regarding key/emerging issues related to prevention, diagnosis, and treatments within the therapeutic area of Oncology

·       Ability to efficiently coordinate and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly deadline-driven environment

·       Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Outlook required

·       Self-motivated, positive attitude, and very high energy with excellent teamwork skills

·       Extreme focus on accuracy, attention to detail and consistency of work

·       Effective written and verbal communication, as well as skilled question writing

·       Editorial skills*: developmental, substantive/structural, stylistic, rewriting

·       Potential Travel 10-15%

·       Located commuting distance to Durham, NC.

·       Experience writing for interactive/digital programs
