    Responsibilities

    Medscape’s editorial program in Europe is poised for growth. The Senior Director of Editorial Operations and Strategy, EU plays an integral role in Medscape’s global team.  Spanning the full editorial team – the UK section and the French and German Editions, plus other editions launched or acquired, the Sr. Director manages editorial functions and projects across all EU countries. We are in need of senior leadership to manage day-to-day editorial operations as well as medium and longer-term initiatives surrounding resource planning and integration, the analysis and integration strategy surrounding editorial systems and processes, and overall budget planning and management for EU content initiatives, from routine news and features budgets to special initiatives as they arise.  

     

     

    The Senior Director of Medscape Editorial Operations and Strategy, Europe will be the central point of contact for the EU editorial team.  The individual must possess a strong background in digital editorial operations and strategy and have experience managing editorial staff in the EU including editors and journalists. The Sr. Director will manage a team of 7-8 employees.

    The Senior Director will coordinate with local language edition editorial leads and serve as the central point of contact for the integration of new editorial operations into the Medscape framework.  In this role, the Sr. Director is responsible for developing a strategy across language editions and local sections and across various platforms and distribution channels to ensure the highest level of editorial quality and coverage and audience growth. The Sr. Director also has responsibility for supporting overall EU traffic targets and membership goals.

     

    • Strategic integration and ongoing management of existing EU editorial operations and new editorial operations resulting from future growth and acquisition.
    • Day-to-day oversight of EU edition editorial team, including 7-8 full time employees.
    • Oversight of EU editorial budget, including news, features and other editorial initiatives.
    • Ongoing collaboration with core member marketing and acquisition teams, focused on growing MD and HCP penetration and engagement with EU editions.
    • Management of social media sites in collaboration with member marketing
    • Attendance at key professional specialty meetings as needed

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related field or equivalent years' relevant experience, clinical degree preferred (MD, DO, RN, NP, PA)
    • 12+ years' experience in publishing, digital content or other similar editorial functions     
    • Demonstrated deep medical domain knowledge, with a medical print or online publication
    • Established expertise managing the content program of a major website focused on EU and UK markets.  
    • 7+ years' of vertical management experience, including experience managing medical faculty, contributors and in-house/field editorial employees
    • 5+ years in creating and executing digital content strategy
    • Experience in driving editorial operations, eg. integrations of various business units
    • Based in Europe
